I've never wanted to teach, even though my mom was an amazing teacher. The pressure to be a perfect example of something was too much. However, teaching isn't about perfection. It's about sharing your missteps, lessons, and training so others either don't make them or learn from them. The decision to do this is partly because yoga and this community helped me through my mom's illness and death, among other recent life challenges. Deciding to teach in honor of my mom is healing my heart and keeping her close.
I started playing sports by elementary school and lifting weights in junior high. I only added yoga to my routine when I started having back problems at the young age of 25. I tried many facets of yoga and most of the fitness crazes out there. What I've learned is that you can do all of these things well, and still be doing them wrong. Alignment and muscle awareness are talked about but seldom a focus. Let me help you learn to align yourself and engage the correct muscles for a safe productive yoga practice.
I've chosen to start my official teacher training in 2019 with Anatomy, Kinesiology, and Movement. I believe this is the corner stone to any physical activity. My training focus will be personalized sessions to help each student learn where in each pose they should be and how to adjust as their flexibility and strength increase. No more pulling and pushing into a deeper pose you're not ready for. I will offer clients the opportunity to focus on muscle activation and proper alignment whether a beginner or advanced. I completed my 200 hour teacher training in March 2021 and am ready to give back. Let's move!
